The Valley of Desolation was so-called after the great storm of 1826 which whipped across North Yorkshire, felling trees and taking out much of the area’s plant life. I am with the family at Scarborough, North Yorkshire this evening. The family and me arrived here on Friday even via Bridlington and the coastal road past Filey to avoid the crazy A64 in rush hour.
